OMG! Stream, stream, Netflix is here!
Internet TV giant launches in India, worldwide
BENGALURU: Yes, if you are a binge TV-watcher, celebrate! You can ‘Netflix and chill’ in India now. In fact, it’s probably the new ‘United Nations’ - in one go as Netflix, went global from 60 countries earlier to 190 countries — except ‘Communist’ China, ‘nuclear’ North Korea, and ISIS’ Syria. So, no original blockbuster Netflix shows for Xi, Kim and Assad, at least for now!
Netflix movies, documentaries and TV/Internet shows can be streamed on any device connected to the Internet — on smartphones, tablets, Xbox and Wii consoles, Apple TV and Chromecast, on Windows PCs and Macs.
The first month is free, and subscription starts at Rs. 500 a month thereafter. The killer, of course, will be Internet data charges. Hey Mark Zuckerberg, can we have Netflix on Free Basics?!
But is the full Netflix catalogue available? No. Netflix seems to be starting off with a limited number of Hollywood movies, and even fewer — about 100 — Bollywood movies. Netflix is best known for its original series, and most of them are available — Making a Murderer, Narcos, Daredevil. And lots of kids’ stuff from Disney, Marvel, Pixar..
Is the streaming smooth? Does it buffer? In Bengaluru, at least, the streaming seems to start instantly over a broadband connection, and is surprisingly smooth, although that may not be an uniform experience across the city and on different devices. Netflix says you will need 5 mbps speed to have a good HD streaming experience.
Do we get it all uncensored? Shhhh.don’t say it loud! Yes, it’s all uncensored so far.
