ALAPPUZHA: A team of BBC World has arrived to do a feature on the backwaters and the state’s rich culture on its popular ‘The Travel Show’. The episode on Kerala will be telecast next month and is expected to reach out to around 77 million viewers around the world. Editor of the show Mike Landon, producer Down Lake, and well-known presenter Henry Golding landed here on Thursday, and sauntered the nooks and corners of the city of canals studying its unique tradition and lifestyle.

The team was invited by Kerala Tourism Department as part of its marketing strategy to sell the backwaters and culture among western holidaymakers. When Deccan Chronicle caught up with trio at Coir Museum, near Alappuzha town, Ms Lake said the half-an-hour show would give Kerala a ‘thumbs up’. “The team travels around the world and introduce the unique and unsung cultures to the pan-world viewers. But the life of Alappuzha is simply incredible,” she said. The trio will capture scenes in rural areas, apart from Kathakali, homestay units and backwaters till Sunday.
