Chennai: In a second incident within two months, the city police have recovered a country bomb, assembled with commercial explosives, placed in front of an aided middle school at Vyasarpadi here on Friday  evening.

The find by parents who came to collect their kids from the government aided middle school caused flutter on Bhakthavatchalam Colony I street at Vyasarpadi,  around 3.30 pm. The parents alerted the school headmistress Bhavani who in turn alerted the MKB Nagar police.

Subsequently, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) personnel were activated and a four-member team arrived at the spot. The team examined the suspicious object which was found to be a professionally assembled country bomb with a wig on top. The explosive had been assembled in such a way that it would go off either on  exerting pressure or by lighting the wig.

Cops are trying to ascertain as to whether it was a stray bomb, missed in transit, or one which was deliberately planted to target someone. Cops termed the bomb find in front of a school a ‘mere coincidence’ in the light of recent bomb scare in city schools. A similar bomb, a cruder version, was recovered from the terrace of Regional Meteorological Centre at Nungambakkam in November last.
