University of Hyderabad dean appeals for peace
The University is witnessing a series of protests.
Hyderabad: The Dean of Students Welfare on Friday posted an appeal on the University of Hyderabad website requesting students not to create “disturbance or unrest” as the course duration had been shortened in view of water crisis. The University is witnessing a series of protests on the issue of five dalit scholars belonging to the Ambedkar Students Association being suspended from the university hostel.
The suspension has drawn protests on social media from Dalits rights activists. In this context, the dean’s letter said the students need to respect the system; a case against the suspension notice had been filed in High Court, which would be heard on January 18. Protests continued on the campus with a section of students burning an effigy of Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya for writing a letter to the Union ministry of human resource development last year that the ASA students were involved in “anti-national activities”. Besides, a protest rally was held against the suspension.
