VS Ugrappa, HM Revanna backing Nayak for Ayukta?

Bengaluru: Congress MLCs, V.S. Ugrappa and H.M. Revanna indirectly batted for the appointment of Justice S.R. Nayak as the next Lokayukta while attacking social activist, S.R. Hiremath and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders who favour Justice Vikramajit Sen for the post.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr Ugrappa said, “Mr Hiremath who is acting like an extra constitutional authority, has been making allegations against Justice Nayak, who had worked impartially as head of the State Human Rights Commission and Law Commission.” According to him, neither BJP leaders nor Mr Hiremath ever had any objections earlier.

“All of a sudden, both the Bharatiya Janata Party and Mr Hiremath have started politicking on this issue. This is an appointment which is the prerogative of the Chief Minister, none should have interfered or indulged in politicking,” Mr Ugrappa said.

In response to a question, Mr Ugrappa denied that he was batting in favour of Justice Nayak but had convened the press conference only to expose the politicking by BJP leaders and Mr Hiremath.
