New app developed to keep eye on motorists in Hyderabad
Details of licence, insurance, violations to be secured
Hyderabad: In a smart move to track multiple violations by motorists, the transport department’s mobile app will now secure details of a motorist’s driving licence, and the vehicle’s record including registration, insurance and pollution certificate.
The app will also list out violations, if any, in which the driver and the vehicles are involved.
The traffic police, transport department, Pollution Control Board and the Insurance Information Bureau have started a project to upload the details online and connect them to the app.
“When a traffic policeman enters the driving licence number or the vehicle registration number, the app will display the traffic record of the driver and the vehicle,” said deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) A.V. Ranganath.
Right now, the traffic police is equipped with handheld machines that only show traffic violations of motorists based on the vehicle registration number and, in some cases, the driving licence details. Also, not all traffic cops carry the handheld machines.
The app has its benefits for motorists. They will not have to carry their essential traffic documents with them. Digitised documents can be provided to the traffic police during checks.
“We are asking motorists called for counselling for violation of traffic rules to bring a copy of their Aadhaar card. We will upload the Aadhaar card details and ensure that multiple offenders are produced before the law and their driving licences are suspended for three to six months,” a traffic police official said.
