284 people caught in weekend drunken driving in Cyberabad

Hyderabad: A weekend special drive against drunken driving conducted by the Cyberabad traffic police resulted in apprehension of as many as 284 people.
Of the 284 people, 248 were bikers, while nine were three-wheeler drivers and 27 were four-wheeler drivers. Twenty-one offenders were caught with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) levels ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml, while 12 offenders were caught with BAC above 500/100 ml.
Fifty-three cases, which are highest in total 284 cases, were booked during the drive conducted under Miyapur police station limits followed by Jeedimetla police station limits with 23 cases and Medchal with 22 cases, officials said.
The traffic police officials said all those caught would be produced before the court concerned on Monday.
They said if anybody indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and causes fatal accident, such persons will be arrested and sent to jail under Section 105 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-2023 for which maximum punishment is 10 years of jail and with fine.
