Magnitude 4.5 earthquake hits northern Japan, no tsunami threat

Tokyo: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 hit Aomori prefecture in northern Japan, but there was no risk of a tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency said on Monday.

On March 11, 2011, the northeast coast was struck by a magnitude 9 earthquake, the strongest quake in Japan on record, and a massive tsunami.
