Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

A former flame, disapproving parents, an unwillingness to commit... as the Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif romance ends, those closest to the couple say that it wasn’t one defining moment, but several factors that led to the break-up.

This week, even as Katrina continued to promote her film Fitoor, Ranbir moved out of the apartment he had shared with Kat.

Our sources said that he shifted his bag and baggage to Wilson Apartments in the suburb of Bandra — a property he had bought back in 2014.

“Rishi and Neetu Kapoor too are expected to move into the same building shortly,” our sources informed.

Security personnel at the apartment complex told that the Kapoor family had performed a puja in the flat, and Ranbir’s belongings had been brought in.

News that the couple were no longer living together in their love nest comes as a shock — especially because they had put up a united front on December 25, at the Kapoor family’s Christmas bash.

A few days later, a grainy paparazzi’s shot of the couple embracing in the balcony of their apartment was published.

It was a departure indeed for Ranbir and Katrina, who have been notoriously tight-lipped about their relationship.

But less than three weeks into the New Year came news of their split.
Our sources claim that the couple had been having several arguments lately.

“Incompatibility was an issue — Ranbir liked to party, Katrina liked to stay home. Ayan Mukerji, who is a close friend, tried mediated between them. There was also Ranbir’s fear of the ‘M’ word and after his last film with his ex, Deepika, the relationship just hit a rough patch,” the source added.

Then there was the fact that Katrina — in her own words — wasn’t as close to the Kapoor family as she’d have liked to be.

We reported a few days ago that Kat’s circle of friends was angered by Rishi Kapoor’s tweeting birthday wishes to Deepika.

Kapoor senior had also strongly denied a report that Katrina called him “papa”.

Ranbir’s mother Neetu Kapoor too wasn’t said to share the warmest of relationships with Katrina — having once cropped her out of a family photo that she put up on social media.

Incidentally, the usually reserved Katrina had admitted in an interview that her only fear was “heartbreak”. Neither Ranbir nor Katrina have issued any statements or responded to the reports about their break-up since they first started doing the rounds.

But with Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos expected to release this year, the couple will have to reunite – if only on screen. And perhaps the old sparks will fly again?
