Renault Kwid

Initially, the Kwid will be exported to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. The manufacturer is showing interest in other markets as well. Renault had launched the Kwid in September 2015 at a starting price of Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The car is based on the CMF-A platform and has up to 98 per cent localisation of its parts in India. The car comes with an attractive styling and features that had grabbed the attention of the market which, in turn, made the Kwid an overnight success for Renault.

After tasting success in the Indian market, the French manufacturer has decided to start the export of the Kwid to the neighbouring countries of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. The road setup in these four markets is same as ours as they have right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles. The export of the Kwid to these markets is scheduled to commence within a month.

Apart from these markets, the company is also looking forward to make its entry in other markets such as Latin America, South Africa, Indonesia, Russia, Iran and Morocco in near future.

In Brazil, assembly of the Kwid will be carried at the Ayrton Senna industrial complex in Sao José dos Pinhais (state of Parana). It is quite possible that the CKD kits of the Kwid will be exported from India. For the Brazilian market, the Kwid will receive four airbags and will come with anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The Renault Kwid was tested recently by Global NCAP, a non-profit organisation that carries out safety-related tests on vehicles. The Kwid, unfortunately, received zero stars for all the three models that were tested.
