BMW Motorrad displayed its wide range of models at the 2016 Auto Expo, which included the highly anticipated G 310 R. The G 310 R has been designed and developed by BMW Motorrad in Germany. The said bike was unveiled at 2015 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. BMW Motorrad has partnered with TVS Motors to manufacture the bike in India at its Hosur production facility. The bike has drawn a lot of attention from the enthusiasts as it will be the most affordable motorcycle from BMW. Now, BMW is said to be working on the G 310 GS, which is an adventure bike based on the G 310 R.

Now, if that wasn’t enough, reports suggest that BMW will not be restricting the G 310 R to be just a street bike. Instead, the company will be working on an adventure motorcycle based on the same. BMW Motorrad already has a strong lineup of adventure bikes categorised in the GS series which are selling like hot cakes in the European market. With the dual-purpose motorcycle market gaining traction in India, we think it is the ideal time for BMW to bring in the G 310 GS. As of now, it is only the Royal Enfield Himalayan that is positioned as a purpose-built off-roading / adventure motorcycle on a budget. Other alternatives, such as the Triumph Tiger lie in the premium end of the spectrum and cost a whole lot more.

Although there are no official images of the G 310 GS yet, one can expect the design philosophy to be similar to what we have seen on higher capacity adventure bikes offered by BMW Motorrad. The GS will be sharing its motor with the upcoming G 310 R which is a 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that develops 35PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The cogs of the gearbox used in the G 310 GS are likely to be tweaked to better suit the characteristics of a dual-purpose motorcycle. BMW Motorrad is expected to debut the G 310 GS at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show later this year.
