A UK-based auto portal, MCN has revealed the patent images of Suzuki 250cc motorcycle online. We reported in 2015 that Suzuki is working on a new 250cc motorcycle. The patent images, posted online, exactly match to the 250cc Suzuki bike spotted on the production line. The new bike will be named as the Suzuki GSX-R250 in the international market while in India it is likely to be called the Suzuki Gixxer 250. The patent pictures make it evident that the design of the GSX-R250 is inspired from its litre-class sibling, the GSX-R1000. The sporty tank, chiselled tank, and the edgy tail section make the new Suzuki bike aesthetically pleasing. Suzuki is hopeful that the full-faired design of the bike will appeal to youngsters, who are the primary target audience for the bike.
All though details regarding the powerplant aren’t clear but we expect the new motorcycle to be powered by a 250cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor to develop around 25Ps of peak power. The powerplant will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. The Suzuki GSX-R250 is a sports tourer like the Honda CBR250R and not a track focused machine like the KTM RC200. The raised clip-on handlebar and centre-set footpeg should result in a sporty yet comfortable riding posture for highway riding.
The frame for the upcoming bike looks similar to the unit found on the Suzuki Gixxer sold in India. The diamond type unit is suspended on telescopic front forks and a monoshock unit at the rear. We can expect the Suzuki GSX-R250 to be unveiled by late 2016 with a possible India launch by 2017. It will compete against the Honda CBR250R and the KTM RC200 in our two-wheeler market.
