Maruti Suzuki is now accepting bookings for the XL6, a premium MPV based on the Ertiga. It is set to go on sale starting August 21 and will be available through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa retail chain. Bookings for the premium MPV are currently open at Nexa showrooms, the Nexa website or the NEXA app for a token sum of Rs 11,000.
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the XL6 will only be available with a BS6 petrol engine - the K15 1.5-litre petrol with mild-hybrid technology - that is also present in the Ciaz and the Ertiga. This engine puts out 105PS and 138Nm and comes with the option of a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter.

The second row of the XL6 will feature two captain seats, making it a strict six-seater instead of the conventional seven-seat layout with bench type middle row in the Ertiga. Captain seats are definitely more comfortable when compared to a bench seat. It will be the first MPV to be retailed through the carmaker’s Nexa chain of showrooms.
The XL6 will come with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters, ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill hold assist, ESP, high speed warning alert, driver/co-driver seatbelt reminder and reverse parking sensors as standard on all variants. Some of these features are now mandatory on all new cars launched in India.
Over the Ertiga, the XL6 will be equipped with Maruti’s latest SmatPlay Studio infotainment system, cruise control, LED headlamps with DRLs, tail lamps with LED inserts and leather upholstery.
The XL6 will be available in two variants and is touted as a ‘premium’ offering. It is presumably based on the top two variants of the Ertiga. The Ertiga ZXi petrol-manual is priced at Rs 9.09 lakh while the ZXi petrol-auto costs Rs 10.05 lakh. Meanwhile, the manual-only ZXi+ retails at Rs 9.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Since it will be a feature-rich offering when compared to the Ertiga, expect a premium of around Rs 40,000.
Once launched, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 will compete against the 7-seater versions of the Mahindra Marazzo. However, the Marazzo is only offered with a diesel engine while the XL6 will only get a petrol engine.
