Mercedes clocks best ever annual and Q1 sales

The Pune-based German automaker also clocked the best ever Q1 2023 sales, retailing 4,697 units

New Delhi: Mercerdes Benz, India's biggest luxury carmaker on Tuesday maintained its number one position by selling 37 per cent year-on-year more cars at 16,497 units, its best ever financial year sales in a fiercely competitive luxury car market in the country.

The Pune-based German automaker also clocked the best ever Q1 2023 sales, retailing 4,697 units, registering a whopping 17 per cent year-on-year growth.

It also sold 107 per cent more top end cars, costing over Rs 1 crore, in Jan.to March 2023 period. These car comprised of GLS, S Class, EQS, AMG, S Class Maybach and GLS Maybach.

Even the core sedan portfolio comprising the C Class and E Clasd LWB grew by a strong 27 per cent year-on-year, accounting for 30 per cent of the Q1 2023 sales volumes.

"Our best ever fiscal and Q1 sales indicates strong demand for our brand among the luxury car buyers," Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO at Mercedes-Benz India, said.

He said the significant growth in the top end Mercedes vehicle segment as well as rise in sales of electric cars show the changing profile of Mercedes customers, prefering sustainability and luxury at the highest lever.

On Tuesday Mercedes expanded its growing AMG performance car portfolio by introducing AMG GT 63 S E Performance car priced at Rs 3.30 crore at pan India showroom.

Iyer said with sales success, Mercedes car launches would continue to woo more buyers. Mercedes competes with archrival BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, and Lexus in India which together sold around 38,000 cars in the luxury segment in 2022.
