PUNE: BMW, India’s second biggest Germany luxury car maker, on Thursday introduced the new BMW X3 M40i priced at Rs 86.50 lakh at pan India showroom to boost sales.

It is the performance-oriented, sporty version of the X3 SUV and shares its powertrain with the BMW M340i sedan.

Available in limited numbers, the X3 M40i is available in India as a completely built unit (CBU) and the bookings are already underway for a token amount of Rs 5 lakh.

The BMW X3 M40i gets a sporty body kit featuring a more aggressive front bumper with larger vents, dual-tone 20-inch M light alloy wheels, dual exhausts and M-specific ORVMs.

Inside, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It gets carbon fibre interior trim, an M leather steering wheel, M seat belts, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and 3-zone automatic climate control.

The X3 M40i is powered by a 3.0-litre, turbocharged 6-cylinder engine like the M340i sedan. However, in the X3, this engine develops 355 BHP and 500 Nm.

The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system.

BMW claims the SUV accelerates 0-100 kmph within 4.9 seconds, and it can reach an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
