Hero MotoCorp will be expanding its Splendor product range with the launch of its iSmart iteration on July 14. Even before Hero MotoCorp officially declared its launch yesterday, rumours of its launch have been floating in the market since the time the new Splendor iSmart 110 was spotted at a dealership few weeks back. The Splendor iSmart 110 is the first indigenously developed bike by Hero after the split with Honda. The bike will come equipped with Hero’s i3S Technology which is essentially the same start-stop system that first debuted in the Splendor iSmart.

As the name suggests, the new motorcycle will be powered by a 110cc displacement, single-cylinder air-cooled motor delivering 9.1PS of power and a peak torque of 9Nm. Power will be transferred to the rear-wheel via a 4-speed transmission. Hero’s new powerplant will have to live with the indestructible tag that has been associated with the iconic 97.2cc motor which made it the highest selling motorcycle in India. The i3S (Idle Stop and Start System) technology shuts the engine down after neutral is engaged and the bike idles for five second, once the rider depresses the clutch to engage gear the motorcycle automatically starts thereby reducing fuel consumption.

Fuel efficiency has always been the forte for the Splendor brand and we expect the new Splendor iSmart 110 to deliver over 80kmpl (claimed figure). Expect the new bike to be priced at a slight premium over the Splendor iSmart with an ex-showroom price of around Rs 55,000. The Hero Splendor iSmart 110 will compete against the Honda Livo, Yamaha Saluto RX and the new TVS Victor We will be reporting live from the launch event and will be riding the motorcycle also soon, watch this space for more updates.
