Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), said the tie up is aimed at promoting shared and cleaner mobility.

Mahindra’s current product line-up has a hatchback, sedan and a few SUVs. While their SUVs continue to bring respectable numbers, their product portfolio has been missing an MPV. Recent spy shots of its upcoming MPV suggest that Mahindra will fill this gap in their lineup soon. While details of this new offering are still sketchy the dimensions and the stance of the test vehicle hint it to be an MPV that can possibly rival the Toyota Innova Crysta.

Looking at the test vehicle, the biggest giveaway is the vertical slat front grille, confirming it to be a Mahindra product. The MPV has a slant bonnet design that is almost in-line with the front windscreen while the front bumper has two horizontal air slits below the grille. Moving to the profile of the test mule, it has a sloping roof design that extends beyond the C-pillar which makes space inside for the third row occupants. The rear of the test vehicle being heavily disguised could not provide much details of the new offering.

Mahindra is reportedly expected to deploy the down-sized 1.99-litre mHawk engine in the MPV that was recently introduced in the Scorpio and XUV5OO. It will likely sport a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company might also consider introducing the MPV with a petrol engine as well owing to the current preference of buyers in the market.

In the current MPV market, the segment is led by Toyota’s recently launched Innova Crysta which has been selling very well in spite of it being unavailable in Delhi/NCR due to the diesel ban.
