Spec comparison of 2017 Honda City with rivals
Sedan segment will witness Honda City take on the Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Hyundai Verna.
The Honda City facelift will be launched on February 14, 2017. It is one of the most popular cars in its segment. However, the Maruti Ciaz was the highest selling sedan in the segment last month. Also, the segment is about to become more competitive since Hyundai is set to introduce the next-generation Verna by the middle of this year. Let's have a look at the mileage of the new City and other cars in its segment – the Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Hyundai Verna.
The performance of the City’s 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine have been phenomenal over the years, and people love it for its refinement and tendency to be quiet without any disturbing sounds inside the cabin. This mill is paired with the same setup as seen in its predecessor – a 5-Speed manual/ CVT gearbox. Among the rivals, the top spot for the best fuel saver goes to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz with 20.73kmpl while the Skoda Rapid sits at the bottom with figures of 15.41kmpl. The Honda City shares the third spot with the Hyundai Verna at 17.4kmpl.
The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine, which helped the City regain supremacy in the C-segment before being dethroned by the Maruti Ciaz, happily puts out power in excess of 100PS. On the downside, the fuel economy figures have gone down for the City in this update, from 26kmpl to 25.6kmpl! But even with those numbers, it manages to stay at the no. 2 spot while the Ciaz continues to top here too with a mileage of 26.21kmpl.
The small dip in the diesel mileage shouldn’t be a major concern for the Japanese automaker, however, if it wants to rejig the competition and zoom to the numero uno position again, it has to price the City quite aggressively. Since there aren’t any massive changes in the facelift we expect the prices to remain in the vicinity of the current prices – Rs 8.3-12.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
