Triumph launches Bonneville T100

A bike manufacturer's commitment towards the Indian market is praiseworthy if it launches a product in India in the same month as its global debut at an international motorcycle show. British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph did just this by bringing a new member to the Bonneville family into the country. The recently unveiled new Bonneville T100 at the INTERMOT motorcycle show this month has made its way to India. The T100 has a starting price of Rs 7.78 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and is the second most affordable bike from the Bonneville family after the Street Twin.

The T100 echoes the retro styling of the T120, albeit in a more compact form. It comes with a shorter wheelbase, lower seat and relaxed dynamics that should make it accessible to the novice rider. If you are not a fan of the retro looks, Triumph also have an all-black version of the T100 called the T120 Black, which may soon follow the T100 here.

The Bonneville T120 shares its 900cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine and mechanicals with the Street Twin, though with a slightly more relaxed rake and trail and weight being a bit portly at 231kg dry. The 55PS motor is a torquey unit, making 80Nm of torque at just 3230rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The service interval for the powertrain has been increased from 10,000 kilometres to 16000 kilometres. The power delivery is quite linear and accessible, a boon for new riders. Also helpful are the electronic riding aids like ride-by-wire, torque-assist clutch and switchable traction control carried over from the Street Twin. The Kayaba 41mm front forks and preload-adjustable twin Kayaba rear dampers are carried over from the Street Twin as are the single 310mm floating disc upfront and 255mm disc at the back, both clamped by two-pot Nissin calipers and aided by ABS.

The Bonneville T100 will be available in three two-tone colours – Blue/Silver, Black/Silver and Orange/Silver. In addition to this, Triumph offers over 150 customization options for the T100 and that includes the performance Vance & Hines pea shooter exhausts.
