KTM’s 1 millionth Indian unit races out
PUNE: KTM India has achieved a major milestone on Friday as it rolled out the one millionth unit from the Bajaj plant here in Chakan.
An Adventure 390 became the millionth KTM manufactured in India almost 12 years after the first unit was rolled out at the Chakan plant from where the motorcycles are also sent to over 100 countries, including the likes of Germany, Switzerland and Norway. The motorcycle makers have completed building the second half million of their million bikes built in India, in half the amount of time they had taken to build the first half million.
In an attempt to further strengthen their partnership, Bajaj and KTM are planning to work together to develop a 48-volt electric two-wheeler in India.
The joint venture between KTM, which claims to be the world’s No. 1 premium motorbike brand, and India’s auto major Bajaj Auto is 50.1:49.9.
The two companies also aim to take Bajaj Auto’s EV scooter platform Chetak Technologies to the European market.
Stefan Peirer, the CEO of KTM’s parent company Peirer Mobility AG, said his company’s push towards building strong brands across the world was well received and recognised by Bajaj Auto in India which has led to the strong partnership to produce world-class products and remain the leaders in the two-wheeler market.
Bajaj Auto MD and CEO Rajiv Bajaj concurred with Stefan Peirer’s opinion and said the partnership will result in the development of many more products, including electric vehicles.
“I will ask all our employees to be better versions of themselves everyday at work. Today the one-million milestone has been achieved and I’m sure there will be many more such milestones in future,” added the Bajaj Auto CEO.
