The highly anticipated C-segment sedan from Toyota, the Vios has been spotted testing in India. The Indian customers are eagerly awaiting the launch of this sedan in the country. It was expected to be showcased at 2016 Auto Expo but it didn't happen. The Japanese automaker is getting approvals for the sedan and once it's approved, it will take further five to eight months for the car to be launched here. The Vios will compete with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna and can be expected to launch in India around late 2017 or early 2018.

The Vios spotted was not camouflaged, but did have all the Toyota badges hidden under a tape. We have to admit that the car looks good, especially the long wrap around taillights and the Corolla Altis-inspired front. The spied unit did not have projector headlamps, fog lamps, or even LED daytime running lights, but the final production model will sport all of these. The later generations of this sedan will be inspired by the Camry in terms of design. In fact, a new model of the Vios is already available in the international markets.

Vios will use the same engines as the Etios sedan – 1.4-litre diesel and 1.5-litre petrol – the tuning of which will be altered to extract better performance. In terms of dimensions, the Vios is 4,410mm long, 1,700 mm wide and 1,475 tall, which makes it smaller than its rivals like the Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz. This could mean that the cabin space might be a little restricted but if engineered cleverly (which Toyota usually does) it will be on par with its Indian rivals. Prices for the Vios are expected to start from Rs 8 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 11 lakh.
