British MG Comet EV priced at Rs 7.98 lakh

Pune: MG Motor, the British marquee brand owned by the Chinese car giant SAIC, on Wednesday introduced its second electric vehicle, the MG Comet EV, at an introductory starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh at pan India showroom, making it the most affordable electric car in the country.

It beat the likes of the Tata Tiago EV priced between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh and the Citroen e-C3 ranged between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 12.43 lakh.

The Comet EV is a 3-door micro hatchback with four seats. The car rides on 12-inch steel wheels.

The Comet EV features a tall boy design and comes with dual projector headlamps, a charging port up front and LED lights with an LED light bar at the back.

Inside, it gets dual 10.25-inch screens for the touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity and a digital instrument cluster. The car gets a funky 2-spoke steering wheel with Apple-inspired controls. Some of the other features offered in the car include keyless entry, electrically adjustable ORVMs, dual airbags, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

The Comet EV uses a 17.3 kWh battery pack that is said to offer a range of 230 km on a single charge. It powers an electric motor that generates 41 BHP and 110 Nm.

According to MG, the battery can be charged from 0-100 per cent in 7 hours using a 3.3 kW charger. It charges from 10-80 per cent in 5 hours.

Deliveries of the MG Comet EV will start on May 15.
