UM Motorcycles has likely eyed a cost advantage in manufacturing from India and making huge margins by selling their models in the USA. So, the American-born motorcycle maker will make use of the “Make-in-India” campaign and manufacture motorcycles in India and make them available for sale in the USA.

The exports will likely begin from next year based on what sources at the UM Motorcycles reveal. Meanwhile, the UM Motorcycles also has plans of building its customer base to bring it to 30,000. It has already entered in a Joint-Venture with Lohia Auto, which executes the UM Motorcycles’s plans and designs into complete motorcycles.

In terms of the expansion through dealerships, UM has set up 50 bike dealers across 32 cities covering most parts of India. The company registered about 4,000 bookings through these dealerships.

UM India hasn’t failed to tweak its products to suit Indian sensibilities either. It even got a 130 point wish list from its consumers, which it is working on in the Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports with the 279.5 cc engine. So, the launch of these motorcycles are likely delayed only to improve on its quality.

The bikemaker will also improve their products’ localization to take it up to 80 percent from the current 65 percent. This will also likely reflect on the pricing, as the UM Motorctcles priced its offering attractively around Rs. 1,49,000.

UM Motorcycles also eyes the South-western market in India, where motorcycle manufacturers sell 60 percent of their motorcycles in this region. They also promise new models twice each year, than offering mere visual enhancements, creating a major market outside of the US in India.
