Isuzu Motors begins Andhra Pradesh plant

The factory is built with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore.

Nellore: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday inaugurated a new factory of Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors at Sri City in Chittoor. The factory is built with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore.

Isuzu’s first vehicle — the new generation Isuzu D-Max V-Cross,  which is India’s First Adventure Utility Vehicle — was rolled-out of plant by the Chief Minister along with  Isuzu Motors president Masanori Katayama.

Addressing the gathering Mr Naidu said, “I am very happy as Isuzu is the very first car making facility in Andhra Pradesh. Isuzu and several other MNCs have preferred in Sri City because of the world class infrastructure and excellent support exte-nded by the Sri City management.”

Isuzu Motors India managing director Naohiro Yamaguchi said that initial production capacity of the plant is 50,000 units per annum and can be scaled up to 1,20,000 units eventually.

According to Isuzu Motors president  Masanori Katayama, “India is a key part of Isuzu Motors’ global growth strategy. This new plant in India will not only cater to the requirements of the growing Indian market, but in future it will also serve as a key manufacturing hub for Isuzu’s global operations.”

Mr Hiroyasu Miura, chairman, Isuzu Motors India, said that the company has found Indian suppliers to be capable of meeting Isuzu’s global quality standards and we will follow a high localisation strategy for the manufacturing operations in India.
