Volvo to launch S90 in India on November 4
The luxury sedan will cost between Rs 55-60 lakh.
Volvo will launch its luxury sedan, the S90, in India on November 4, 2016. It is the second model after the XC90 to be based on Volvo’s SPA platform and will compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF and Audi A6.
The Swedish automaker will offer the car only in the 'Inscription’ variant that comes fully-loaded. On the outside, the car gets LED headlights along with the 'Thor’s Hammer’ daytime-running LEDs, a chrome front grille with 'floating-effect’ slats along with chrome highlights on the side and 18-inch alloy wheels. What's more is that it rides on Pirelli P Zero tyres that have been custom designed for the S90 (look for the 'VOL’ insignia on the sidewall).
The safety package comprises front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, emergency brake assist, ISOFIX, park-assist, lane-keep assist and a lot more. The cabin features 4-zone climate control, electrically-adjustable front seats and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment interface. You also get a 19-speaker sound system by Bowers and Wilkins and Nappa leather upholstery.
At launch, the S90 will only be offered with the 'D4’ 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque. The motor comes paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that channels the output to the front wheels.
Like the other models in Volvo India’s range, the S90 will be a direct import. However, with an expected price of Rs 55-60 lakh, it will fall into a similar price category as the mid-higher range variants of its segment rivals.
