Updated Triumph Tiger to be launched in July
The upcoming motorcycle will be powered by the same 1,215cc three-cylinder engine.
The Triumph Tiger is one of the most popular adventure tourers in the country. Although Triumph updated the Tiger in 2016, the bike maker is now introducing a newer version of the motorcycle with updated mechanicals and improved electronic aids. The upcoming motorcycle will be powered by the same 1,215cc three-cylinder engine as now, but it will produce 139PS of power and 123Nm of torque, a bump of 2PS and 2Nm. The bike has a tubular steel trellis frame, along with WP 46mm USD (up-side down) forks with adjustable preload and 190mm of travel at the front. The rear has a WP monoshock with 193mm of wheel travel which is connected to a single-sided cast aluminium alloy swingarm with an integrated drive shaft.
Braking duties are handled by twin 302mm floating discs at the front with radially mounted 4-piston monobloc Brembo calipers at the front and a single 282mm disc with Nissin 2-piston sliding caliper at the rear. Switchable ABS is offered as standard. The bike is shod with tubeless 120/70 R19 tyres at the front and 170/60 R17 tyres at the rear. It gets a fuel tank capacity of 20 litres and weighs 246kg. It also gets an adjustable seat height which ranges between 837mm to 857mm. The seat height might be an issue for shorter riders.
In terms of electronics, the Tiger Explorer gets LCD display which packs a speedometer, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, service indicator, clock, ambient air temperature and coolant temperature. An additional multi-function DOT matrix LCD display shows the different riding modes, windscreen adjustment, trip computer, odometer, range-to-empty alert, tyre pressure monitoring system, settings menu and heated accessories status.
Triumph currently offers only the Explorer XC (which is the most basic of the lot) in India and we expect the manufacturer to offer the higher variants of the updated bike which include – the XR, XRx, XRt, XCr, XCx and XCa - in the country too. Apart from the above mentioned features in the XR, the XC, XRx and XCr get cornering ABS, traction control, 6-axes inertia measurement unit (IMU), Triumph semi-active suspension, off-road riding mode, cruise control, self-cancelling LED indicators, heated grips, hand guards, additional power socket and engine protector bars.
Triumph also offers a low saddle height model in the XC which is called the XC Low. This version has a saddle height between 785-805mm to suit shorter riders. In addition to the features available on the XCa, the top-of-the-line Explorer XRt and XCa gets additional features such as a hill hold control system, two extra riding modes (sport and customisable mode), LED auxiliary fog lights and heated rider and passenger seats.
The new Triumph Tiger Explorer is expected to be priced around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base XC version. Once on sale, it will face competition from the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and the BMW R1200 GS range.
