Maruti Suzuki Swift drives past 30 lakh sales mark
Maruti Suzuki's popular Swift hatchback hits 3 million sales in India since 2005, continuing its legacy with the new fourth-generation model
Pune: Maruti Suzuki, India’s biggest car maker, on Friday said its popular hatchback Maruti Swift has achieved a new sales milestone of 3 million units in India.
The Swift was introduced in the Indian market back in May 2005 with segment-first features such as climate control, airbags and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). Since then, it has been one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country.
Sales crossed the 1-million-unit mark in November 2013 within eight years since its launch, and surpassed 2-million-units in May 2018.
This year, Maruti Suzuki launched the fourth-generation Swift in India. The new model is available with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine that produces 80 BHP and 112 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.
The new Swift is available in five variants: LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi, and ZXi+, with prices starting at Rs 6.49 lakh at the Delhi showroom.
"With each new generation, the Swift has continued to raise the bar, offering cutting-edge technology, contemporary style, and that unmistakable 'Swift DNA' which continues to captivate customers," said Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki India.
The brand has achieved over 6.5 million sales globally, with India being Swift's largest market.
