Mumbai: Expressing his disappointment over the delay in the formulation of a new aviation policy, AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes said India needs a proper policy to unlock its huge potential in the aviation sector.

While stating that he is impressed with the new government and its ambitions, AirAsia chief, however, said the domestic aviation industry has lagged behind its Asian peers.

“The sector is complicated with 5/20, there is lot of talk about regional airports, taxing the airline industry among others. I hope that policies would be made easier,” the Air Asia chief said.

He said his group is planning to expand its fleet size in India. “We will go to 8 planes very soon. I hope to get to 16-20 planes soon,” he said.
