Economic Survey: Fiscal deficit target may be tweaked

The survey said that the government will be able to achieve the fiscal deficit target of 3.9 per cent in the current fiscal.

Govt had revised upwards the fiscal deficit at Rs 5.95 lakh crore or 3.5 per cent of GDP in the recent Union Budget.

New Delhi: The Economic Survey on Friday signalled  a possible fiscal deficit revision in the Union Budget 2016.

The survey said that the government will be able to achieve the fiscal deficit target of 3.9 per cent in the current fiscal.

The government has pegged the fiscal deficit at 3.5 per cent of GDP for the next fiscal.

However, the survey said “the time is ripe for a review of the medium term fiscal framework” in view of change circumstances in the world.
