Funds scarcity hits EA projects in Telangana
Total cost of projects is Rs 10,608.97 crore.
Hyderabad: Scarcity of funds has affected the ongoing externally aided projects in the state. At present, the state government is implementing nine EA projects.
Of them, seven are with the financial assistance of World Bank and two are with the financial assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The total cost of the projects is Rs 10,608.97 crore and the expenditure till the date is Rs 5,129.35 crore.
In the current year, the state government has allotted Rs 1,270.04 crore to EA projects and the expenditure is about Rs 470 crore.
It is also implementing some projects from 2007, as even after expiry of the implementation period the state government has not completed the work.
The water resources department has taken community based tank management project work at a cost of Rs 486.67 crore with World Bank assistance. The project period lapsed in July 2016. The state government has spent Rs 426.74 crore.
In the current year Budget, the state government has allotted Rs 41.40 crore and spent Rs 31.20 crore. Similarly, water resources department had taken up irrigation and livelihood improvement project in 2007 with the financial assistance of JICA.
The implementation period was touched in July 2016. The total cost of the project is Rs 291.34 crore and expense was Rs 245.75 crore.
In the current financial year, the state government has allotted Rs 81.88 crore to this project and the expenditure was Rs 32.25 crore.
The total cost of World Bank assisted projects is Rs 10,019.91 crore. Out of this, World Bank’s share is Rs 6,232.08 crore and the state government’s share is Rs 3,787.83 crore. The to-tal expenditure on these projects is Rs 4,641.97 crore.
The total cost of the JICA assisted projects is Rs 589.06 crore, out of which JICA’s share is Rs 510.59 crore and the state government share Rs 78.47 crore. The total expenditure on these projects is Rs 487.38 crore.
The state government has claimed an expenditure Rs 5,129.35 crore on ongoing EA projects and received Rs 3,033.71 crore. More than Rs 2,000 crore is yet to be received by the state government.
