Entrepreneurship is just not about making profits: Varun Manian
The landscape of Indian business is evolving at the speed of light.
The landscape of Indian business is evolving at the speed of light. The ideologies and principles of the younger generation are more refined and businesses are going beyond the usual mapping defined a decade ago. One who deserves a worthwhile mention on broadening the horizon is Varun Manian. At a very young age, he managed to not only surge as an entrepreneur but also look out for the welfare of society.
Born and brought up in Chennai, post his graduation from New York University, he returned to India to join his family business. After gaining hands on expertise by working from the bottom up he branched out on his own to start the Radiance Group.
As Varun says “Karl Marx was compulsory reading at school in NYU. I always remember the line – From each according to his ability. To each according to his need. My take from the first sentence is that I have to work to my maximum ability. The second sentence has taught that it is my mission to look after my customers, my business associates, my colleagues and of course to help society in whatever small way I can.”
Varun Manian is a visionary and is working towards making an umbrella brand that holds all the aspects of home development. Radiance Realty, the flagship business, is a fast growing property development company. Allied businesses under the brand include Radiance Facility Management Services, Radiance Home Solutions which does home interiors right from design to execution. Radiance Total Care which is just being started will provide a one stop shop for all home maintenance.
Varun is extremely keen on sports and has started Radiance Sports with the idea of developing talent from the grass root level. As he says “Our youth are second to none. Given the right facilities, the right training and the right nutrition they will be world beaters.”
We asked Varun about his thoughts on the current difficult real estate market.
In his words “There will always be a demand for housing, there will always be customers for quality, for transparency and for timely delivery. I do not believe that there are any difficult markets. I believe that there are changes in markets and that we have to change along side. We at Radiance we are all about quality and delivery. We are all about caring for the customer. And our customers reciprocate this. They trust us, they care for us and they buy from us.”
Varun has recently started the initiative “Radiance Genies” to help people who need help. An example is the way Radiance staff worked tirelessly during the Chennai December 2015 floods, providing food to over 30,000 people and shelter to over 250 families.
