Globally, there are over 5,000 SEZs operating across 145 different countries, covering a range of industries. India is one of the early proponents to recognise the role of SEZs in enhancing manufacturing for the domestic market and for exports, attracting investment and technology, as well as creating jobs, joint ventures, supply chains and specialised clusters in the country. Presently, there are 231 SEZs in India developed by the Union government, Indian States and private players.

The Export Promotion Council for EOUs & SEZs (EPCES) has collaborated with Wbf International Centre Services (WICS) to organise the first ever Global Economic Zones (GEZ) Expo & Convention 2019, to be held at The Ashok, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, from 27-29 March 2019. The event is managed by Exhibitions India Group (EIG), a highly professional company with over 30 years’ experience in trade shows.

Already, a number of Union ministries, government organisations, and others have confirmed support to the event including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Shipping, Airport Authority of India - Ministry of Civil Aviation, Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) - Ministry of Railways, and the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO)Government of Haryana will be the Partner State for the event.

Among the objectives of the expo is to: Promote foreign/domestic trade and investments; broaden the manufacturing base and generate employment; boost production; showcase State-of-the-art infrastructure; support development of global production networks and value chains; and, facilitate local economies to unlock their key development sites.

Briefing about the event, Shri Siddharth Singh, Chairman, WICS Connect Group said, “Free Trade Zones, Export Zones and Export Processing Zones offer land with world class infrastructure and tax incentives, as effective instruments to promote industrialisation and trade by attracting FDI in manufacturing and services sectors, creating jobs and enhancing exports. Through this expo we intend to showcase the strength of Indian SEZs and the role they have played in the economic development of the country. It will provide an opportunity to the SEZ units to interact with the global business community at their doorstep. Besides showcasing the opportunities and attracting investments, the conference part will deliberate on the road ahead for planned economic zones in the country by sharing global best practices.”
