Hyderabad: Air conditioning brand Blue Star’s wholly owned subsidiary Blue Star Climatech has started commercial production at its automated and smart plant at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, and has launched a new range of room ACs for 2023.

The new ACs are in the ‘best-in-class affordable’ and ‘flagship premium’ ranges. Overall, the company has launched nearly 75 models across the spectrum of inverter, fixed speed and window ACs, and across price points to cater to every consumer segment.

The flagship models include those tagged super energy-efficient, heavy duty, smart, ACs with hot and cold technology, and ACs with anti-microbial filter to offer the consumer a wide choice.

Blue Star said it would source some of its new products from the new plant at Sri City. The factory is equipped with the latest automation techniques and tools for its assembly line and material handling, and has deployed a slew of initiatives towards IoT and digitisation.

Located close to ports, the plant will enable efficient logistics management for the company by ensuring speedy movement and containing cost. Blue Star has so far invested approximately Rs 350 crore in this plant, which commenced production on January 1 and will make about 3 lakh units in its first year. The figure will gradually be scaled up to 1.2 million units.

Speaking at the new plant, Blue Star Limited managing director B. Thiagrarajan said the firm was on course to become a billion dollar company by the end of the year. “In between, we had diluted our margins to grow our market share, due to which we had suffered. A couple of months before the pandemic, we repositioned ourselves as an affordable, premium brand which helped us recover,” the MD said.
