Rajkot: Seeking to clear the air on a second term for RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, Union Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will take a call on this "at an appropriate time".

Rajan's current term is set to end in September and there has been intense speculation about whether he would be given another term, especially when a section of the ruling party has been pitching for his ouster.

"The announcement will be made at an appropriate time. Our Prime Minister and Finance Minister had said they would make the announcement as soon as they take the decision in this regard," Sinha told reporters here.

Sinha was in Rajkot today as part of the second anniversary of the NDA government. He termed the Prime Minister, who is currently visiting the US, as "a global statesman".

"Modi has become a global statesman now. India's prestige and identity have touched new heights under him. Today, India is among the three or four most important countries in the world. It is a matter of pride for all of us that he will address the US Congress today," said Sinha.
