NMDC moved HC as final move: CMD

Our objective is to request the state government and solve the issue very amicably.

The state's warning to cancel the lease stems from a dispute between NDMC, the country's biggest iron ore miner, and the state government over its decision to impose an 80% premium on ore sales from NMDC operated Donimalai mines in Sandur.

Hyderabad: State-run mining firm NMDC, which has suspended iron ore mining from the Donimalai mine in Karnataka, recently moved the High Court on the issue of levying 80 per cent premium by the Karnataka government on the iron ore extracted from Donimalai mines in the state after all other moves were exhausted, a top official said.

“Our objective is to request the state government and solve the issue very amicably. We pleaded with folded hands before the government and requested that this (levying 80 per cent premium) is not legally correct... It is at the bureaucratic level, there are some noises. Finally ,we had to move the court because we exhausted all other options,” NMDC chairman and managing director N. Baijendra Kumar told PTI.
