Mobile sales may cross 75 million

According to the report, 65.9 million handsets were shipped in the second quarter (April-June), up over 24 per cent from January-March period.

New Delhi: Mobile phone sales for the first time are expected to cross 75 million during third quarter (July-September) of 2016 led by festival celebrations, according to CyberMedia Research (CMR).

According to the report, 65.9 million handsets were shipped in the second quarter (April-June), up over 24 per cent from January-March period. About 37.3 million (56.5 per cent) feature phones and 28.7 million (43.5 per cent) smartphones were shipped in April-June.

Interestingly, feature phone shipment grew 27.7 per cent quarter-on-quarter, while that of smartphone was up 19.5 per cent. “The mobile handset shipments are likely to surpass 75-million mark per quarter for the first time in 3Q’CY16, attributable to several factors,” said  CMR’s India Monthly Mobile Handset Review.
