Trai to slap show cause notices

Trai chairman said on Monday that the regulator has reviewed data and it will issue show cause notices without revealing the name of the operators.

Sharma said Trai will give operators \"a couple of days\" to furnish the data on PoI congestion for the five-day period and then it will \"determine what action can be taken\".

New Delhi: With incumbent telecom operators and Reliance Jio involved in a row over interconnection, telecom regulator Trai said on Monday that it will slap show cause notices to operators for call drops that are far exceeding the norm.

Last week Jio had alleged Airtel, Vodafone and Idea have hardly provided any  new point of interconnection in last 15 days resulting in 10 crore call drops per day

Trai chairman R.S.  Sharma said on Monday that the regulator has reviewed data and it will issue show cause notices without revealing the name of the operators.  
“We have received the data. It shows call failure level is far in excess of prescribed limit under quality of service rules. Prima Facie this constitutes to non compliance of licence condition related to interconnection and QoS norms on congestion levels at points of Interconnection,” he said. Trai had asked the operators to submit their network congestion details from to examine their claims.
