Telangana mining wing surpasses past performance

Even the revenue earned through sale of sand witnessed a growth rate of 57 per cent.

Hyderabad: The TS mining department has achieved a higher growth rate of 69 per cent in revenue earnings this year.

In the first six months of this fiscal (April-September 2016-17), the income earned through minor minerals increased to Rs 357 crore from Rs 211 crore during the same period last year.

Even the revenue earned through sale of sand witnessed a growth rate of 57 per cent. The seigniorage collections from sand increased to Rs 183.7 crore against Rs 117.14 last year.

Mining minister K.T. Rama Rao held a review meeting with mining officials at Secretariat on Wednesday where he announced incentives for staff whose performance helped achieve the targets.

Mr Rao recalled his promise of giving incentives to staff who perform better when he assumed charge of the mining department early this year.

“I am delighted to know that the performance of mining staff has surpassed our expectations. The staff deserves special incentives for this. Official should immediately  devise an incentive policy to encourage better performers,” he said.

The minister also sought payment of Rs 1,000 crore arrears owed by Singareni Collieries to the government towards royalty fee at the earliest. He spoke to Singareni CMD N. Sridhar over the arrears.

Mr Rao asked officials to streamline mining department in all districts with the creation of 21 new districts recently.
