Hyderabad: In an era where technology is rapidly evolving, the question of whether mobile phones are making watches obsolete is a common one. Suparna Mitra, CEO of Titan Watches & Wearable Devices, firmly believes otherwise.

Speaking at a session, 'The Tata Legacy – Living Values,' hosted by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) Hyderabad chapter, she dismissed the notion that watches were losing their relevance.

"Are watches competing with mobile phones?" she asked the audience at the Pinnacle Amphitheatre. "Absolutely not. The functionalities of both devices may overlap, but their purposes are distinct."

According to Mitra, watches are much more than timekeeping devices; they serve as status symbols, gifts for special occasions, accessories, and a means of self-expression. "Your watch tells a story about who you are," she asserted. "None of these are achievable with a mobile phone."

Mitra, who has led Titan through challenging times, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, shared insights into the company's core values and strategies. Despite watches being one of the hardest-hit categories during the pandemic due to their non-essential nature, Titan has remained resilient. "We are a people-centric company," she emphasised. "If you take care of the people, the people will take care of the business."

Highlighting the vital role women have played in the success of Titan's brands, Mitra said, "Indian women have made many of our brands successful. Women are more beautiful together than as individuals."
