Hyderabad HC verdicts life imprisonment to 18 criminals
Obulesu was convicted for robbing and kidnapping a businessman, others were convicted for murders, rapes and dowry murders.
Hyderabad: Eighteen criminals including ex-cop Obulesu were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2015. While Obulesu was convicted for robbing and kidnapping a businessman using an AK 47, others were convicted for murders, rapes and dowry murders. Among the 18, five had committed crimes in Banjara Hills police station limits, a recent police data said.
On November 19, 2014, Obulesu, who was suspended from the elite police unit Greyhounds, opened fire at wholetime director and vice chairman of Aurobindo Pharma, Mr K Nityananda Reddy, in a bid to kidnap him at the KBR Park in Banjara Hills.
The victim was getting into his car after a morning walk at the park and he and his brother resisted the attempt and fought off Obulesu. Though he fired the AK 47, which he had earlier stolen from the police armoury, the victim escaped unhurt.
Sheikh Mastan from Banjara Hills, who killed his two siblings in 2012, was given life imprisonment. Mallikarjun, 37, was given lifer for raping a girl in 2014.
