DRI sleuths seizes over 4.65 kg gold at Hyderabad airport; 2 detained
Gold in the form of biscuits was concealed in cigarette packs.
Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Friday seized 4.65 kg gold and detained two persons including a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on charge of smuggling the yellow metal.
The gold in the form of biscuits, weighing 4.65 kg and worth over Rs 1.2 crore, was concealed in cigarette packs in a bag and was carried by a passenger named Asaduddin, who arrived at the airport from a flight from Dubai, DRI Additional Director General M K Singh said.
Another person named, Srinath, an employee of Menzees is also arrested for aiding the smugglers. Srinath is a passenger service agent for the company that handles ground services for Qatar Airways.
"The duo have been picked up for questioning... further investigation is underway," Singh said.
