Bengaluru: Lecturer held for selling snake venom

BENGALURU: A team of Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested two men on Saturday for trying to sell cobra venom, ephedrine and other narcotics.

The accused have been identified as Zameer Ahmed, 47, and Pyare Jaan, 70, both residents of Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh. Zameer Ahmed is working as a mathematics lecturer in a degree college in Kuppam and believed to be involved in drug peddling for last two years. Police received information that the duo is coming near Nagawara Junction to sell narcotics. Based on the tip-off, a team of CCB officials approached the duo in the guise of buyers and arrested them.

The police seized 320 grams of ephedrine and 400 ml of other drug mixed with cobra venom. The estimated value of the seized contraband is Rs 7 lakh. “When interrogated, Zameer confessed to knowing Pyare Jaan for two years and buying the cobra venom from a foreigner based in Goa,” the police said. “The duo visited the city once every month to sell drugs. They, initially, supplied the drugs for free to youth and later started charging them heavily for the same.” the police added.

A case has been registered in Hennur police station and the seized cobra venom has been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory for test.
