Coimbatore: A young woman from Delhi alleged that she was abducted, confined to a room for five days and sexually assaulted by a taxi driver and his friends in Coimbatore. The 23 year old woman had come down to Coimbatore by flight on 6 January to meet her friend from Hyderabad.

“She decided to go out to shop upon landing at the airport and took a taxi from there. The driver, identified as Vijayakumar drove her to an apartment in Vadavalli, kept her under confinement and sexually assaulted her along with a few others,” she told police.

After torturing her for nearly a week, the abductors took her to Erode and abandoned her there, after threatening not to reveal the incident to anyone.

The woman managed to reach Vadavalli and lodged a complaint against Vijayakumar under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu (Prohibition) of Women Harassment Act.

After initial enquiries, police suspect the woman to have cooked up a story of kidnap and sexual assault. “We suspect it to be a false complaint. She must have been brought to Coimbatore by a pimp. However further investigations are on and a search is on to nab the taxi driver,” said a cop.
