7-year-old raped by neighbour

Visakhapatnam: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in an inebriated condition here at Nandavaram village in Payakaraopeta mandal of Visakhapatnam district. Though the incident happened on Tuesday night, it came to light on Wednesday, when the parents of the girl lodged a complaint with the Payakaraopeta police.

The accused, Kona Ramana, 28, is a daily wage labourer and is in police custody. According to the police, the minor girl, a Class II student, was going to a provision store near her house to buy some groceries on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Ramana who was in a drunken state saw the girl and took her to an isolated place near her house.

Incidentally, when the accused was allegedly committing the crime, one of her family members, was  passing through the place and heard the girl’s screams  and rescued her.  On Wednesday morning, the girl’s parents approached the police and lodged a complaint. Ramana tried to flee but was caught by the police. Police filed a case. The girl has been sent for medical examination.
