Chennai based con women target high-profile boutiques
Walk away with costly outfits in Poes Garden.
Chennai: The Chennai police are hunting for three women who had walked into a at least two high-profile boutiques at Poes Garden and Alwarpet neighbourhood only to walk away with highly priced outfits worth several lakhs.
The first incident was on Wednesday last at Nazia Syed boutique in Poes Garden located on Kasturi Rangan Road.
The same women reportedly repeated their trick next day at another boutique managed by a kin of famous movie director, this time on TTK Road, according to sources.
“The three well dressed middle aged women reached the boutique around 1 pm on Wednesday. After checking some of the items, one engaged the only staff available at that time in a conversation. The other two moved to another room where they pushed stolen dresses — bridal collections worth Rs 3 lakh — into pouches in their inner skirt.
They later left the shop saying they forgot to bring the credit card and promised to return the next day,” said I.M. Jayaraj, representative of the boutique, a unit owned by Paulsons beauty and fashions. Jayaraj lodged a complaint with Teynampet police station. The next day, the three went to another shop in TTK Road and took away dresses in a similar way.
Police after going through the clippings of surveillance cameras said the women, who committed the crime at both places looked the same.
According to the complainant, though the women looked as if they were from middle class families, they never matched the regular customers’ profile.
The boutique managers came to know about the theft only on Friday evening when they took an inventory of items. When they browsed through the video clippings, they could see the women hiding the bridal items and walking away, the complainant said.
