Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch officials brought Bannanje Raja, an underworld operative, to the city on Wednesday from Hindalga prison to probe a shoot out case, where he had killed a car driver of his rival Agni Sridhar in Banashankari in 1997. A team led by CCB sleuths brought Raja from Belagavi to the city amidst tight security.

He was sent to Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara on Wednesday noon. On Thursday, he would be taken into custody for questioning after being produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court. “There are over 10 criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and offences under Arms Act, pending against him. However in the murder of Srinivasa, Agni Sridhar’s driver, is on top of the list,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) K.V. Sharath Chandra.

On July 1, 1997, Raja and his associates in a bid to kill Agni Sridhar fired at the car in which Sridhar's associates Bacchan and Mehmood along with the driver were travelling. They were going to the court and Sridhar was not present in the vehicle.
