Sankranti festival fervour seems to have beaten the GHMC poll fever

Hyderabad: Sankranti festival fervour seems to have beaten the GHMC poll fever, with nearly 20 lakh people from Seemandhra and other districts in Telangana preparing to leave for their native places. The festival weekend stretches to four days, with holidays on January 14 and 15, an optional holiday on Saturday, followed by Sunday. The AP government has already announced holidays from January 14 to 17.

Nasscom has suggested that IT companies give  Sankranti holiday on January 15, so they can get three days off over the weekend. Given this, the GHMC election campaign is expected to pick up only next week. “We will be ready for campaigning from Monday. Candidates will stay back in Hyderabad along with their supporters but a large number of people will go home,” TD Qutbullabur MLA K.P. Vivekanand said.
