Hyderabad: The GHMC polls will see a large number of college students participating, not as voters as election staff.

The TSEC is roping in about 3,000 students for poll duties. They will web-cast poll proceedings from various booths in the city.

Proceedings will be web-cast from about 3,000 sensitive and hyper-sensitive of the 7,757 polling booths for GHMC elections.

According to IAS K. Surendra Mohan, additional commissioner (elections), the Election Commission has sent a communiqué in this regard to various engineering and degree colleges in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

“Students, who own laptops were asked to come forward and we received an amazing response,” Mr Mohan said.

The EC would be supplying web-cams for video-graphing the proceedings.

Mr Mohan said the selected students would be given two-day orientation training about the poll process and their responsibilities.

Each student would be paid Rs 600 for the day’s work, he said.
