GHMC polls: Lists shock some, others bide time

The last day for withdrawing nominations is January 21.

Hyderabad: For many, it was time to put on a brave face while for others, a time to celebrate as parties announced their candidates, including their preferred choice of mayor, if they bag the majority of divisions in the GHMC.

As soon as the parties began releasing the lists, heavy rush was witnessed at the various nomination centres on Saturday.

The Congress was the first to announce its list, declaring candidates for 146 of the 150 wards. The party did not name candidates for four divisions in the Old City.

While former mayor B. Karthika Reddy will contest from Tarnaka, she has not been named the mayoral candidate for the Congress, the honour going to Jambagh division candidate Vikram Goud, son of ex-MLA Mukesh Goud.

The TRS, which aims to win over 80 seats, announced its first list on Friday.
TS home minister’s son-in-law V. Srinivas Reddy was given the Ram Nagar ticket, former mayor T. Krishna Reddy’s niece T. Sunaritha Reddy got the Moosarambagh ticket. Khairatabad seat was given to former minister P. Janardhan Reddy’s daughter P. Vijaya Reddy   K. Venkatesh, former Floor leader from the Congress, who first shifted his loyalty to the YSRC and then to t he TRS managed to get his wife K. Jayasri the ticket for Golnaka division.

MP K. Kesava Rao’s daughter G. Vijaya Laksmi was given the Banjara Hills ticket. Former TD Floor leader and corporator Singi Reddy Srinivas Reddy, who lost his seat due to reservations, managed to get a TRS ticket for his wife Singi Reddy Swarnalatha Reddy.
