Kozhikode Corporation plans home for all
Beneficiaries to get a 15-year loan for 6.5% interest rate.
KOZHIKODE: Envisaging the vision for housing for all, the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation will launch the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) - House for All Scheme (Urban) on Tuesday. The training for the officials, surveyors and councilors for the smooth conduct of the programme has already been given through Urban Housing Mission.
The PMAY has been launched aiming to construct about two crore houses by the year 2022 in the country. Implementation of the project is through four schemes such as 'In situ' slum redevelopment, affordable housing through credit linked subsidy, affordable housing in partnership, and subsidy for beneficiary-led individual housing construction. Slum redevelopment can be done in the existing land using private participation and extra aid if required.
Loans with subsidy can be availed of by people with Rs 3 lakh and Rs 6 lakh annual income. They will get a loan for 6.5 per cent less than what banks are offering for a period of 15 years.
Affordable housing in partnership is a project for constructing houses with the help of private and public sector including parastatal agencies. The subsidy for beneficiary-led individual house construction aims at the economically weaker section (EWS). The state has to prepare a separate project for such beneficiaries. They will get government aid of Rs 1.5 lakh, provided they have land.
Kozhikode Mayor V. K. C. Mammed Koya said that Kudumbsharee volunteers had been assigned to identity the beneficiaries and had already started working. The launching ceremony will be held at Town Hall at 3 pm.
